What is a public ethernet jack on ISUnet?

A public ethernet jack on ISUnet is a location on campus where faculty, staff, and students can connect a mobile computer to an ethernet jack on ISUnet to gain access to local and Internet resources.  These jacks reside in public spaces to provide convenient access to affiliated users.

Where are these public jacks available?

By August 2001, public ethernet jacks will be available for use at the atrium on the second floor of Bone Student Center and the second and sixth floors of Milner Library. By December of 2001, public ethernet jacks will also be available within all of the campus dining centers.

What do I need to connect to a public ethernet jack?

All that you need to connect to a network access point is a pre-installed ethernet card in your mobile computer and an ethernet patch cable.  Once configured, users will be required to register their computer using a web-based registration form to gain access.
