Cabling for Network Connectivity
|
|
Only certified installers may install or terminate cabling systems
(ie: cabling, jacks, and termination blocks) used to provide network
connectivity within a building infrastructure (ie: ceiling, walls,
floors). This includes technicians from Telecommunications and Networking, campus electricians,
and off-campus contractors. Units may not manufacture their own
patch cabling. Only commercially available patch cabling may be
used. Contact Telecommunications and Networking at 438-8731 for details. Back to top

Use of Network Electronics
|
|
Units may not install hubs, repeaters, switches or routers on any
jack of ISUnet. This practice may cause disruption of service for
others. If these devices are discovered, the jack that they are
connected to will be taken out of service without warning. Back to top
|
DNS (Domain Name Service)
|
|
Units may not construct DNS servers on ISUnet. These services are
provided centrally by Telecommunications and Networking. Distributed DNS servers would reduce
the reliability of the overall campus network, and therefore are
prohibited. If such a service is discovered, it will be blocked
through software. Back to top

DHCP (Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol)
|
|
Units may not construct DHCP servers on ISUnet. These services
are provided centrally using web-based authentication. Distributed
DHCP servers would conflict these services. If such a service is
detected, it will be blocked through software. Back to top
